World-renowned marine naturalists, Ned and Anna DeLoach, authors of Reef Fish Identification and Reef Fish Behavior, will join local expert REEF instructor, Judie Clee, and Chris Flook, Collector of Specimens for the Bermuda Aquarium, as your trip leaders for the week. REEF Lionfish Research Program Director, Lad Akins, will lead this expedition.  During the week, participants will experience first-hand the explosive expansion of this invasive species.  After witnessing the lionfish invasion in the Bahamas, the Turks and Caicos government is very concerned about the recent invasion into their waters and the subsequent effects on their stunning reefs and marine life.  Participants on this project will conduct REEF fish surveys at prime dive sites throughout Provo to document lionfish, as well as assist with field research.  Presentations will include fish identification, as well as information about the Indo-Pacific Lionfish and how it came to be established in the western Atlantic region, the Lionfish research that REEF and our partners are conducting, and what divers can do about it.

REEF Program Fee ($300) and other REEF Trip Policies apply.

$425 pp + $250 REEF Program Fee for 5 nights at Safari Inn and 4 days of 2-tank diving on their big boat, round-trip transfers. Arrive in Cozumel Saturday December 13 and depart Thursday December 18. The group will be diving Sunday through Wednesday. Sheryl Shea will teach her terrific fish ID classes with a dash of fish behavior sprinkled on top to make your stay a great learning experience and heaps of fun!
